Lawn to native garden

Floating Stone water feature

The owners of this corner property wanted to remove the lawn from the front garden and large verge. A native garden with a contemporary Japanese feel was designed to replace the turf, with some deciduous trees included for solar passive purposes.

Compacted limestone was used for open areas with Toodyay stone and granite steppers adding interest and a granite bridge provides access from the gate to a large decked area. In this space the owners can relax and enjoy the WA granite ‘Floating Stone’ water feature and the variety of colour and textures in the surrounding garden.

The verge is now planted out with hardy groundcovers and species which will give seasonal colour and also incorporates some interesting striated rock formations collected by the owner who is a knowledgeable geologist.
