My garden is not really a ‘designed’ garden as such, it is really a place for me to play and experiment. It has had several incarnations; from colourful natives with a pea gravel path, to a banksia garden with a limestone path and the current version has a deck and a pond and a very eclectic collection of native, productive plants, succulents and cuttings of plants which people have given me.
I like to plant heavily as in nature plants grow together and love company. Dense planting in a warm climate can be very beneficial as the plants are self -mulching and create their own microclimate. I am finding that more of my clients are keen to have productive plants in the garden so where possible, I integrate them into the planting scheme. I managed to squeeze quite a few fruit trees and vegetables and herbs into this garden to illustrate that you can grow food in even the smallest spaces.
These images show the more ornamental section of the front garden where we like to sit out on the deck and enjoy the ‘wild’ little sanctuary that has been created. Drop by for a cup of tea or a green smoothie from the garden sometime!
